About KAA

The Kentucky chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture, organized in 1974.

The Kentucky Arborists’ Association is the Kentucky chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture. Our purpose is to promote the science, technology and practice of professional arboriculture throughout Kentucky, and to stimulate greater interest, understanding and appreciation among the public for urban trees.

Our members include commercial, municipal and utility arborists, community tree board members, educators, cooperative extension personnel, nurserymen, landscapers, students, and tree enthusiasts of every kind.

Purpose

The purpose of the International Society of Arboriculture’s Kentucky Chapter is to foster a better understanding of plants and their safe care, through the education of professional arborists and the dissemination of information to prospective clients throughout the Commonwealth. Organized in 1974, the Kentucky Chapter is one of over 60 international non-profit components of ISA: chapters, associate organizations and professional affiliates.

Objective

An enhanced Kentucky arboricultural industry, defined by growth in the sales and size of member firms, increased federal, state and private funding for research and education, a sustained, knowledgeable and skilled workforce, and a greater appreciation of trees and plants by the public.

Strategy

Through its board of directors, officers and standing committees, the Kentucky Chapter:

  • Offers educational seminars for members and non-members.
  • Promotes networking among members through The Kentucky Arborist newsletter and regular meetings, connecting public and private organizations that have arboricultural needs with the members who can meet them.
  • Enhances professionalism in arboriculture through statewide programs such as public relations and arborist credentialing.

Working with ISA, the chapter promotes the local and global benefits of arboriculture, and helps Kentucky colleges and universities recruit, educate and place students in the profession.

Goals

  • Provide and promote educational opportunities in arboriculture.
  • Promote arboricultural credentials.
  • Improve professional practices.
  • Increase public awareness of the benefits of trees and proper tree care.
  • Promote research and technology transfer.

Code of Ethics

Members of the association:

  • Strive for continuous self-development by increasing their qualifications and technical proficiency, staying abreast of technological and scientific developments affecting the profession.
  • Do not misuse or omit material facts in promoting technical information, products or services if the effect would be to mislead or misrepresent.
  • Hold paramount the safety and health of all people, and endeavor to protect property and the environment in the performance of professional responsibilities.
